The fortified Church of St. John the Evangelist in Paczków is a Gothic defensive temple that was created in the second half of the 14th century. Its founder was probably the Bishop of Wrocław, Przecław of Pogorzela. The current shape of the building is the result of reconstructions in the Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-Gothic styles. In the 16th century, out of fear of Turkish invasions, the temple was fortified by excavating a well inside the church, lowering the roofs, and covering them with a Renaissance attic that protected the church from fire and provided shelter for shooting positions.
Inside, a historic net and stellar vault has been preserved, along with rich furnishings: from Gothic sculptures from the workshop of Veit Stoss, through a Renaissance Passion altar, to the prospect of the Schlag organs from the end of the 19th century.
