The Cardinal's Redoubt in Nysa was created on a river island in the 1740s. It was built on a roughly square plan with a circular courtyard, surrounded by casemates, whose vaults and walls were covered with earth ramparts.
A classical gate leads to the courtyard from the outside, and to the shooting and artillery positions – ramps from the courtyard level.
The facility was built simultaneously with the twin Capuchin Redoubt in order to protect the western fortifications of Nysa and Radoszyn, as well as the Upper lock and the one on the Młynówka river. Originally, it was surrounded by a moat, however, the marshy terrain caused it to be washed away over time. The redoubt – like other defensive works of the Nysa fortifications – was rebuilt in the 19th century.
Currently, the facility is not in use.
