The Sanctuary of St. Joseph in Prudnik-Las is a place where, from October 6, 1954, to October 28, 1955, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński was imprisoned in one of the monastery cells. It was the third place of internment for the clergyman. The communist authorities tried to keep his place of imprisonment a secret, first by forcing the Franciscans to leave the monastery building, and then by fencing off its area, securing it with a network of barbed wire. The first floor of the monastery was intended for the priest and the persons accompanying him; the second floor was occupied by state officials. The period of internment in the monastery is recalled by a room with its preserved historical appearance and furnishings, as well as a plaque commemorating the imprisonment of the Primate of the Millennium. Practical information: The facility is generally accessible. Free parking spaces along the road.
