The Monastery of the Annunciation in Biskupów in the Paczków Foothills and Opawskie Mountains is one of three – next to Tyniec and Lubiń – Benedictine monasteries in Poland. The Benedictines arrived at this place in the 1980s, taking over the edifice built in 1912 by the Sisters Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculately Conceived.
The parish church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the vicinity of the monastery.
Individual and group retreats are organized in the monastery. Guests can use the guest house.
There is also a generally accessible chapel and a bookstore in the monastery.
The first Benedictine abbey was founded on Monte Cassino hill in Italy. It possesses the oldest library in Europe, and its scriptorium, where manuscripts were copied by hand, belongs to the most valuable collections from the Middle Ages.
In Poland, Benedictines have been present since the beginning of the 11th century.
