The Karolinka and Karlik Monument in Gogolin commemorates the heroes of the Silesian folk song "Poszła Karolinka do Gogolina" (Karolinka went to Gogolin). The "Śląsk" ensemble contributed in particular to popularizing the song, singing it in dozens of countries and on several continents.
The monument depicts Karolinka – a young girl in pigtails, hurrying with a brisk step, followed by a cheerful Karliczek with a bottle of wine. The creator of the concept of building the monument was Szymon Koszyk – an Opole plebiscite activist and an outstanding expert on Opole folklore, and its author was Tadeusz Wencel – an Opole visual artist.
The unveiling ceremony of the monument took place in 1967, along with Gogolin obtaining city rights. Since 1987, the motif of Karolinka and Karlik has also been present in the coat of arms of Gogolin.
Cultural events take place under the monument, including cyclical breaking of the record in the number of people singing the famous song about Karolinka.
