The Town Hall in Brzeg – a Renaissance, two-story structure erected on the plan of an elongated horseshoe in the second half of the 16th century – is currently one of the most valuable monuments of Renaissance architecture in Poland. Currently, the town hall is the seat of the municipal authorities.
The first seat of the municipal authorities in Brzeg existed already in the 14th century, this building burned down in the great fire of the city during the reign of Duke George II. The new town hall was erected according to the design of Italian architects – Bernardo Niuron and Jakub Parr. Using old Gothic walls, the builders created a representative building in the form of a city palace with distinctive cloisters. The clock tower with an openwork balustrade dates from the second half of the 16th century. In the 1920s, a Renaissance portal, coming from one of the Brzeg tenement houses, was embedded in the southern facade of the building.
The representative Great Ceiling Hall with a larch ceiling dating from the mid-17th century and the early Rococo Councilors' Hall are famous for their splendor.
