Trails in the Silesian and Opole Provinces

The Town Hall in Opole, erected in the Neo-Renaissance style modeled on the Florentine Palazzo Vecchio, is a contemporary showcase of the city. In the Middle Ages, a wooden merchant's house was located on the site of the building. The decision to erect a seat for the municipal authorities in its place was made in the 14th century. As a result, a brick building was created, to which a tower with a clock and a bell was added in the 16th century. In the 19th century, the tower acquired a Renaissance character. In 1934, it collapsed, which was the result of the earlier demolition of houses and stalls adjacent to the town hall. The tower was rebuilt in the shape from the second half of the 19th century, with a new wing with arcades. Currently, the edifice serves as the city hall. The tower, from which the city bugle call resounds daily at 12 o'clock, is made available to visitors. Inside, one can see an exhibition about the history of the city, and from the observation deck – the panorama of Opole. Practical information: Free guided tours are offered.
