The suspension bridge in Ozimek is a historic pedestrian crossing on the Mała Panew river. Built in 1827, the object is the oldest iron suspension bridge in continental Europe.
A unique feature of the load-bearing structure of the bridge in Ozimek are monumental, cast-iron pylons, set on both sides of the river, over which chains are hung.
The bridge in Ozimek was designed by the royal metallurgical inspector Karl Schottelius, and it was made by the local Małapanew Ironworks, which was established by the order of the King of Prussia Frederick II. Over the years, it became a leading foundry in Europe specializing in the production of iron bridges. The first bridge made of cast iron elements, modeled on the English "Iron Bridge," was produced in Ozimek at the end of the 18th century to enable crossing the Strzegomka river for the Łażany estate near Wrocław.
The object is an example of changes in the development of technology and bridge engineering in the world taking place at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
