The Kraków Gate and the Gothic tower standing in its vicinity are the symbol of Kluczbork. The structure was created at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, becoming a fortification part of the castle and royal court existing probably since the end of the 14th century, surrounded by defensive walls. The defensive walls in Kluczbork were erected at the end of the 14th century, encircling the city on three sides. From the north, there was a wooden palisade with a moat separating the city from wetlands constituting natural protection.
At the beginning of the 20th century, a two-stage tented roof was added to the tower built of bricks and having a high plinth of fieldstones, and it was converted into a water tower.
