The Montalembert Tower in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, also called Fort Frederick William, was built in the first half of the 19th century. According to the idea of the creator, Marquis Marc René de Montalembert, it was one of the furthest protruding objects belonging to the fortifications of the Koźle Fortress.
Fort Frederick William was built at today's Portowa Street as part of the right-bank fortifications of the Fortress, on the right side of the Oder river, and its range covered the village of Kłodnica and the first two locks of the Kłodnica Canal. It was erected as a four-story brick masonry structure on a circular plan with a circular, open courtyard in the middle. Its outer circumference is 33.9 m, and inner 15.6 m.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the tower was converted into a brewery, and in 1945 it burned down. Currently, the fort is located in a closed area and is unused.
