The bell tower by the church under the invocation of St. James the Greater Apostle and St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr in Nysa hides a unique gallery of sacred art – the Treasury of St. James. These are works of goldsmith art by Nysa goldsmiths, including mass chalices, ciboria, candlesticks, and other liturgical vessels.
Among the exhibits presented on three floors of the tower is, among others, a silver ciborium by Martin Wogelhund, carved silver covers of the missal of St. James, a monstrance set with a hundred diamonds, the heart of Bishop Charles, or a figurine of the Madonna of Foy.
Some of the items are constantly used during the celebration of mass, particularly during the biggest holidays.
All historic objects are works of goldsmith art that came from the hands of Nysa craftsmen. By the end of the 19th century, 176 goldsmiths worked in the city, whose craftsmanship was compared with masters of the trade from Augsburg and Vienna. The main commissioners of the works of Nysa goldsmiths were mainly members of the court of the Wrocław bishopric, higher clergy, and canons of the collegiate chapter of St. Nicholas, residing in the capital of their duchy in Nysa.
