Located in the former gasworks, the Museum of the Gas Industry in Paczków is the only facility in Poland where equipment for the production of town gas has been fully preserved. During the museum tour, one can see old industrial architecture, a historic production line, and over 3,000 exhibits related to the gas industry, including household and industrial appliances. Besides gas lamps, a significant part of the collection consists of still functioning stoves, heating stoves, curling irons, irons, and a gas refrigerator. The museum's collections also include the largest collection of household gas meters in Europe, consisting of 600 pieces. The museum, which has survived unchanged for over 100 years, is illuminated by gas lanterns.
The Paczków Gasworks was built in the years 1898-1901. The first gas – used mainly for lighting streets in the market square, powering water pumps, and preparing meals – flowed to the city on December 31, 1901. In the 1930s, 700 households in Paczków used gas.
The last cart of coke produced in the gasworks was extinguished with a symbolic glass of champagne on July 15, 1977. This coke, together with the cart, can be seen while visiting the museum.
