The Collegiate Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle in Głogówekis a Gothic-style temple established in the 13th century funded by the Duke of Opole-Racibórz, Frederick. The majestic collegiate church is often called the Pearl of the Opole Land. Inside, special attention is deserved by Baroque sculptures, paintings, and frescoes being the works of the painter Franz Sebastini and the sculptor Johann Schubert, who worked on the church decor in the second half of the 18th century. In the main altar, there is a painting by Sebastini depicting the death of St. Bartholomew, and in the main nave, there is a large painting depicting the apotheosis of the temple's patron. The presbytery is richly decorated with frescoes presenting the personification of four virtues: faith, hope, and love, as well as humility or gentleness. On the walls, there are four large paintings depicting scenes from the life of St. Bartholomew. The baptismal font is built up with sculptures with silhouettes of Adam and Eve leaning against the earthly globe. Next to the presbytery is the Oppersdorff Chapel. In the 15th century, it was called the Chapel of the Holy Cross and served as a meeting hall for the Głogówek collegiate chapter. In the chapel, there is the tombstone of the first entailer of the family, Johann Georg III von Oppersdorff, in a semi-recumbent position. Sculptures depicting his parents, George II and Isolde, were placed on the sides. In its crypt, many members of this family, who managed Głogówek from the 16th century until the end of World War II, rest. In the church, there are also two added chapels: of St. Candida, where relics of the saint gifted to the city by Pope Urban VIII in the 17th century are located, and of St. Joseph with a dome with a fresco of the Wedding of Mary and Joseph and wall paintings: The Flight into Egypt and The Twelve-Year-Old Christ Teaching in the Temple. Practical information: Possibility of visiting the church outside mass hours. Free admission. Sightseeing time: 30 minutes. Parking spaces directly by the church, from Kościelna Street.
