The Opole Philharmonic is located in a modern building situated by the Młynówka Canal. The Opole Philharmonic was formally established in 1972. It continues the activities of the Small Symphony Orchestra – the first professional orchestra, which was created in 1947. In 1952 it was transformed into the Opole Symphony Orchestra, and five years later – into the State Symphony Orchestra. In 1969, it was named after Józef Elsner – a composer and the most well-known teacher of Frédéric Chopin. Concerts of classical and jazz music, as well as guest performances of world-famous conductors, composers, and soloists, are organized in the facility.
