Dobra is a village located in the Krapkowice district, in the Strzeleczki municipality. It is located in the area of the Racibórz Basin, which is part of the Silesian Lowland. The Biała river flows through the village, on which there is a waterfall, and next to it an artificial lake with a camping center and tourist infrastructure.
Dobra is one of the oldest towns in this part of the Opole region. The first mentions of it come from a Latin document from 1228, issued by Casimir I of Opole. The showcase of the village is the palace built in the first half of the 18th century. It was erected on the order of the owners of the village, the von Seherr-Thoss family. From the 18th century comes the extensive English-style park and several other buildings around the palace. During World War II, from January to March 1945, heavy fighting took place in the vicinity of Dobra between Wehrmacht units and Soviet troops. During hostilities, many buildings around the palace were destroyed. The Seherr-Thoss family was the owner of Dobra until 1945, when the palace was captured by Soviet soldiers. After the war, the estate of the Seherr-Thoss family was nationalized. Among the monuments of the village, one should also mention the parish church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, built in the second half of the 19th century. It was founded by Olga von Seherr-Thoss of the Strachwitz family, and designed by Moritz Gotgettreu. From the period after World War I comes a monument commemorating the residents of the village who took part in the fighting in the years 1914-1918.
