Kolonowskie is a town in the Strzelce district, the seat of the Kolonowskie urban-rural municipality. The Mała Panew river flows through the town. The year 1780 is considered the date of the town's founding, when a metallurgical furnace was erected in its area. A settlement arose around the plant, which took the name Colonnowska – from the surname of its founder, the owner of the Strzelce estates, Count Philip Colonna. First, the goods were transported to Zdzieszowice by barges on the river, and upon the opening of the railway connection from Opole to Tarnowskie Góry – by freight trains.
After the count's death, his estate was inherited by Andreas Maria Graf von Renard, who contributed to the further expansion of the plants. Eventually, they were closed in the 1920s. In 1933, a chapel was built in the town, and in 1954, the Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1973, Kolonowskie received town rights and today it is the administrative center of the municipality.
