Świerkle is a part of Opole, which was incorporated – together with Borki, Brzezie, and Czarnowąsy – into the city structures on January 1, 2017. Previously, the town was a village in the Opole district, in the Dobrzeń Wielki municipality. The second half of the 18th century is considered the time of the creation of the village called Colonie Horst, which was established on the wetlands. In 1787, 21 settlements were recorded in Świerkle, inhabited by a total of 120 people. In Świerkle there is the Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1949 with funds from collections among the residents. Two bells date from 1974 – one dedicated to St. Joseph, and the other dedicated to St. John the Baptist. They were funded on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the church's existence. In 1981, a general renovation of the temple was carried out. Next to the temple, there is a small cemetery with the oldest tombstones dating from 1945. In the rear part of the church square, opposite the outer terrace, stands a cross with the image of Jesus Christ, and right behind it, the renovated "Pro Morte" chapel.
