Trails in the Silesian and Opole Provinces

Dobieszów is a village in the Głubczyce district, in the Głubczyce municipality. It lies in the south-eastern part of the Opawskie Mountains. The village was founded in the second half of the 13th century. In Dobieszów, at the top of the Castle Mountain (Góra Zamkowa), there are remains of an early medieval hillfort. Legend has it that the hillfort on the Castle Mountain was ruled by the knight Dobiesz. Another folk tale speaks of an existing underground connection between the Castle Mountain and Cvilín in Czech Krnov. On the Castle Mountain during World War II, there was a German point of resistance against the Red Army, defending access to Krnov. To this day, the former moat remains clearly visible, in places interrupted by war trenches. Another object of a historical nature is the church in Dobieszów built in 1740. In the porch of the church, there are two stone, Renaissance tombstone plaques with coats of arms and bas-reliefs depicting children who died in 1593 and 1598. The church furnishings date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The temple tower was built at the end of the 19th century.
