Turawa is a village in the Opole district and the seat of the Turawa municipality. The town lies on the Mała Panew river and Lake Turawa.
According to legend, the game-rich forests surrounding today's Turawa were the hunting grounds of the Dukes of Opole, who decided to build a hunting lodge here. The first documents containing a mention of Turawa date from the early 16th century. It became an independent town in the 18th century, when the surrounding estates became the property of Martin Scholtz von Loewencron, who began the construction of a palace in Turawa – the showcase of the village. In addition to it, in Turawa there are historic palace outbuildings, including a stable and coach houses, as well as a park complex surrounding the palace with natural monuments: a pedunculate oak with a circumference of 350 cm, two ash trees with circumferences of 300 and 505 cm, and a small-leaved linden with a circumference of 450 cm. Tourists are attracted to the vicinity of Turawa by Lake Turawa, around which there are a number of holiday and agritourism resorts.
