The Pückler's Oak natural monument in Szydłowiec Śląski is the most magnificent and probably the oldest pedunculate oak in the Opole region. The specimen is simultaneously included in the top ten trees in Poland with the largest trunk diameter. It is 22 meters high and has a trunk circumference of 905 cm. Pückler's Oak is located in the northern part of the village, right next to the flowing Ścinawa Niemodlińska river. Access to the monumental oak is facilitated by a signpost near the mill canal.
The tree owes its name to the aristocratic Pückler family, who lived in Szydłowiec from the 16th century, and especially to the hero of a 16th-century moral scandal, Wenzel Pückler von Groditzki (Wacław Poklar from Grodziec).
In 1537, returning from a military campaign, he found his young wife in bed with his friend Sigismund Stochs. Wishing to preserve his honor, he fought a duel under the oak, in which he killed the suitor.
