The Złote Bagna Reserve is located within the "Bory Niemodlińskie" Protected Landscape Area and the "Bory Niemodlińskie" Natura 2000 Area, at a distance of about 1 km north of the village of Szydłów. The purpose of its establishment is to preserve the peat bog ecosystem. The dominant types of ecosystems within the reserve are forest ecosystems and transition mire ecosystems. In addition to vascular species, the broad buckler-fern, tufted loosestrife, white beak-sedge, marsh dandelion, and common water-starwort – all endangered in the Opole Voivodeship – grow in the reserve. The reserve is also a refuge for mosses.
