The Tęczynów nature reserve occupies a small part of a larger forest complex stretching between Strzelce Opolskie and Tarnów Opolski. It was created to preserve the tree stand of lowland beech forest and subcontinental oak-hornbeam forest with rare and protected species in the undergrowth. The tree stand of the reserve is formed by two plant communities which are at the same time protected natural habitats: fertile lowland beech forest and subcontinental oak-hornbeam forest. The forest undergrowth in the reserve is covered by a number of rare and protected vascular plants – these include four species of orchids: white helleborine, red helleborine, lesser butterfly-orchid, and bird's-nest orchid, as well as the Martagon lily, bastard balm, and common columbine. The edible dormouse, among others, lives in the reserve.
