The monument of Jerzy Popiełuszko in Brzeg is a monument with a bas-relief located at Zamkowy Square (Plac Zamkowy). The object is dedicated to the memory of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. The clergyman was born in 1947 in Okopy. He received his priestly ordination from the hands of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, and in 1978 he became the chaplain of medical circles in Warsaw. From August 1980, he was associated with working-class environments and actively supported Solidarity. During martial law, he was accused by the communist authorities of involvement in political activity, and in 1984 – kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by secret service officers. His beatification took place in 2010. Practical information: The facility can be viewed from the outside. Free parking on Kraszewskiego Street.
