The monument of Jan Skala in Namysłów was created in 1965 to honor the Sorbian poet, publicist, and politician. Jan Skala was born in 1889 in Niebielczyce in Lusatia. Persecuted for his contacts with Poles and anti-Nazi activities, he was arrested in 1937, and in January 1945 – while protesting against the robbing of families by Soviet soldiers – he was shot by one of them. The activist's grave is located in the village of Włochy near Namysłów. The author of the bust standing on the pedestal in the square at 3 Maja Street was Rudolf Engerlin, a sculptor from Bautzen. Practical information: Sightseeing daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Paid admission to the tower. Sightseeing time: 1 hour. Paid parking spaces in the market square (paid parking zone).
