Trails in the Silesian and Opole Provinces

The Baroque "Under the Eagle" fountain in Prudnik dates from the late 17th century. The base of the monument is a polygonal sandstone basin, in the center of which a sculpture of Atlantes carrying shells was set. The fountain is crowned with a double-headed eagle with a crown. At the beginning, above the golden crown, there was a dove with an olive branch of peace, and water flowed from its beak. During the renovation of the fountain in the mid-19th century, the dove was replaced with a vase with 12 streams of water. As the inscription informs, the object was erected on the initiative of Abraham Tanner von Lowental, the mayor of the town. In the summer months, the surroundings of the fountain are one of the favorite places for residents seeking refreshment on hot days.
