The monument of Duke Władysław Opolczyk in Opole is a monument standing in front of the Upper Castle, where the ruler spent the last years of his life, after a lost war with the troops of the Polish King Władysław Jagiełło. The duke became famous as the governor of Halych Ruthenia, the palatine of Hungary, and a pretender to the royal throne in Kraków after the death of Casimir the Great. He was also the founder of the Pauline monastery in Częstochowa. The ruler's connections with Jasna Góra were also emphasized by the creators of the monument, placing the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa in the duke's hand. The authors of the sculpture are Aneta and Maciej Jagodziński-Jegenmeer, and the casting of the 2.5-meter figure was made in the Opole artistic workshop Art-Odlew. Practical information: The facility is generally accessible. Free parking spaces on Strzelecka Street.
