The monument of Józef Lompa on Osmańczyka Street in Opole is a stone sculpture depicting a teacher, folklore researcher, and Silesian activist born in Olesno. After graduating from the Catholic teachers' seminary in Wrocław, he worked in schools in Cieszyn, Łomnica, Lubliniec, and Lubsza. He developed journalistic activity, emphasizing the connections of Silesia with Poland and organized Polish institutions of cultural life in Silesia. The collections of Silesian literary monuments gathered by the researcher belong to the most outstanding achievements of folklore studies of the first half of the 19th century.
The figure is depicted in a standing position with a book held in his left hand near his chest and leaning on an umbrella.
The monument – made in stone by the sculptor Magdalena Pruszyńska-Jaroszyńska, according to the design of Janina Domaszewska. Its unveiling took place in the 1960s.
Initially, the monument stood in the square at Kopernika Square, and in the first decade of the 21st century, it was moved in front of the entrance to the Mechanical Schools Complex.
