Monument of Joseph von Eichendorff in Nysa

Nysa

The monument of Joseph von Eichendorff in Nysa was unveiled in 2002. The pedestal with the bust is a faithful copy of the monument that stood in the town on the centenary of the poet's birth, in 1888. The monument is dedicated to one of the most prominent representatives of German Romanticism. The poet left behind several hundred poems, epic poems, theater plays, short stories, and a novel. During World War II, in March 1945, to save the sculpture from being melted down in German steelworks for war purposes, the bust was removed from the pedestal and secured. The monument stands next to the house where the poet spent the last years of his life, and not far from the cemetery where he was buried with his wife. Practical information: The facility can be viewed from the outside. Free parking spaces on Mostowa Street.
