The tenement house at 15 1 Maja Street in Opole is a four-story building that was erected in the 19th century commissioned by the Foerster family. The decorative element that distinguishes the three-story [sic] tenement house is two sculptures depicting Atlas – the Greek Titan. The layout of the sculpture, which supports the upper floors on its muscular shoulders, is a reference to the mythical representation of the god. The Titan motif was widely used in Central Europe on the facades of Baroque buildings, as well as in the decoration of interiors and furnishings, such as church organs. From the street side, the tenement house is decorated with cast-iron balconies connecting stylish bay windows. On the roof, in turn, two decorative gables can be seen. A service point is currently located on the ground floor of the building. Practical information: The monument is generally accessible. Free access. Free parking at 1 Garbarska Street.
