The building of the Skowronek Center on Andersa Street in Głuchołazy is currently the seat of the Vincenz Priessnitz Didactic and Scientific Institute. Its activities refer to the spa traditions from the 19th and 20th centuries, based on natural methods of hydrotherapy and climatic treatment.
The "Ferdinandsbad" center was established in the second half of the 19th century as a place for treating diseases and ailments using methods developed by Rev. Sebastian Kneipp, which promoted the use of natural methods in therapy. In the second decade of the 20th century, the estate was acquired by the congregation of Ursuline sisters, who named the facility "Marienfried" (Mary of Peace), organizing a home economics school for girls and a convent in it. After World War II, the authorities first set up the Papermaking Industry School there, and then – a training center of the Central Union of Cooperatives and Agricultural Circles "Peasant Self-Help" (Samopomoc Chłopska).
The contemporary Vincenz Priessnitz Didactic and Scientific Institute features a SPA-type biological regeneration center, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy rooms, a gym, and sports fields. Conferences and training sessions are also organized at the center.
