Trails in the Silesian and Opole Provinces

The buildings of the Benevolens Foundation in Głuchołazy, also called the Artist's House, are a place for creative work whose origins date back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. During this period, the land on which the facility is located was purchased by Count Franz von Ballestrem from Pławniowice, destined for a forest school for the children of his employees and miners of the mines belonging to the Ballestrem family. A forest school was operated in the center, to which the children of employees from Silesia arrived from May to October. An inhalatorium was also built nearby, which served patients suffering from asthma, tuberculosis, and anemia. In the 1920s, the center was made available to nuns, who ran an orphanage there. After World War II, a holiday guesthouse was set up in the building. It is currently managed by the Benevolens Foundation, which runs a creative work house in the facility.
