Max Pinkus's Villa in Prudnik was erected at the end of the 19th century. Until 1939, it was inhabited by Ernst Fränkel and Max Pinkus – grandsons of Samuel Fränkel, the founder of the linen and damask weaving mill in Prudnik. The building housed the Silesian Library, moved here at the beginning of the 20th century from the villa on Piastowska Street. It was one of the largest libraries in Germany and Europe. After the death of Max Pinkus in 1934, the book collection was dispersed, and the most valuable volumes went to the State University Library in Wrocław.
The villa was often visited by friends of Max Pinkus. They included, among others, Hermann Stehr, who wrote his short story titled "The Luthier" there, and Gerhart Hauptmann, for whom the villa was a model for the house of the main character in the drama "Before Sunset".
After World War II, a kindergarten for the children of the employees of the "Frotex" Cotton Industry Plants was arranged in the villa. Currently, the building is privately owned.
