The metallurgical canal in Zawadzkie was built in the 1830s in order to bring water from Żędowice to the developing steelworks in Zawadzkie. For this purpose, a depression in the terrain next to the steelworks was utilized, and after embanking it, a water reservoir was created for the needs of the plant, which is currently called the Metallurgical Pond (Staw hutniczy). Along with the development of the steelworks, it was decided to also use the waters of the Mała Panew river, building two regulated water barrages on the river, at the level of the Świerkle district. Currently, the canal from the Zawadzkie side is devoid of water, and a depression with rows of trees on its former banks is visible there. Closer to Kolonowskie, it is filled with water, connecting with the Metallurgical Pond.
