Located in the former gasworks, the Gas Industry Museum in Paczków is the only facility in Poland where the devices for the production of town gas have been preserved in their entirety. During the tour of the museum, one can see old industrial architecture, the historic production line, and over 3,000 exhibits related to the gas industry, including domestic and industrial appliances. Besides gas lamps, a significant part of the collection consists of still-working cookers, heating stoves, curling irons, flatirons, and a gas refrigerator. The museum's collections also include the largest collection of domestic gas meters in Europe, consisting of 600 items. The museum, which has survived unchanged for over 100 years, is illuminated by gas lanterns.
The Paczków Gasworks was built in the years 1898-1901. The first gas – used mainly for lighting the streets in the market square, powering water pumps, and preparing meals – flowed to the town on December 31, 1901. In the 1930s, 700 households in Paczków used gas.
The last cart of coke produced in the gasworks was extinguished with a symbolic glass of champagne on July 15, 1977. This coke, together with the cart, can be seen while visiting the museum.
