Trails in the Silesian and Opole Provinces

The Glassworks in Murów was opened in the mid-18th century by the monks of the monastery in Czarnowąsy. In that period, it was one of three plants of this type operating in the village. Its location resulted from favorable natural conditions – timber raw material from the nearby forests was used to fuel the metallurgical furnaces; in turn, sand, from which glass was produced, was extracted from beneath the clearcut surfaces. The oldest building in the complex is the carpentry shop dating from the time the glassworks was opened. The main production building was erected at the end of the 19th century. The metallurgical traditions in Murów have been continued since the 1990s by the Vitroterm company. Currently, the plant belonging to it, with spacious production halls equipped with world-class devices forming automated production lines, is one of the most modern facilities of this type in Poland.
