The remains of the defensive walls in Strzelce Opolskie are relics of medieval fortifications. In the 14th century, the walls surrounded the town from the Kraków Gate to the bell tower (near the parish church), and further ran through the parish garden to the Opole Gate. Then the barrier stretched across the square of the Corpus Christi church to the castle. Behind the seat of the Piast dukes, extensive swamps stretched out, providing a natural cover against the enemy. From the northern and eastern sides, access to the town was restricted by a moat.
To modern times, fragments of the medieval wall have been preserved in the town. They can be viewed opposite the Corpus Christi church on Opolska Street and in the northern part of the town, along Kościuszki Street, where they surround the parish church of St. Lawrence.
