The Prison Tower in Grodków was built in the 14th century, next to the currently non-existent Wrocław Gate. It was expanded in the 16th century, and renovated – two centuries later. It is a structure erected from bricks in the Polish bond and plastered. Its corners are decorated with rustication. At the crown of the facility, there are mostly bricked-up arrow slits, and the upper floor is crowned with crenellations.
The facility was owned by the town until the second half of the 18th century, when it was bought by Franz Fiedler, the administrator of the prison that was established in the basements of the tower.
The dungeons served to hold convicts until the middle of the next century.
