The Gunpowder Tower in Namysłów, also called the High and Gunpowder Tower, is the highest of the 45 towers that guarded medieval Namysłów. It was erected in the second half of the 14th century, along with the defensive fortifications. The name of the facility comes from the fact that it was located next to the town arsenal and gunpowder magazines. From the tower, observations were conducted and enemies approaching the town walls were fired upon. The tower served its defensive functions until the 18th century. During the reconstruction carried out in this period, the tower gained a sloping roof covered with sheet metal, and on the western wall, facing the market square, stairs were installed, the 146 steps of which lead to the observation point. The panorama of the town can be viewed from a level of 26 meters above sea level, where watchtowers were located in the past.
